We are looking for a technical, innovative, creative and curious individual to join our commercially focussed data science team. Your role will cover research & development of new ideas, working with SoundOut’s key clients and programming in R. You must be innovative, commercial and have a ‘can do’ attitude, as well as being wildly excited about data and the opportunity to break new ground in the data science field.
About SoundOut:
SoundOut is the world leader in Sonic testing – and as our product suite and technology grow, so is our team! We are looking for a motivated Data Scientist to join us (working remotely), where you will be responsible for statistical analyses, modelling and product development.
SoundOut works with many global brands, sonic branding agencies, and record labels, empowering stakeholders to make the right decisions and enabling brands to harness the emotional power of music.
We have spent the last 12 months understanding the emotional impact of sound for brands (testing hundreds of tracks with over 500,000 consumers) and are currently extending this project with Goldsmiths University exploring the implicit DNA of music and emotion.
Today our clients choose us to help accelerate the certainty and speed of a return on a sonic brand investment. They do that because of the intelligent, data-driven tools we have developed.
Our team are an exceptional bunch, smart and down-to-earth, ambitious and tenacious. We are problem solvers and self-starters, we love music and table football and our weekly ‘office’ day is as much about the food as about the work.
We strive to create a culture of excellence in all that we do, with an emphasis on providing a world class service to anyone we interact with, from reviewers on Slicethepie, through to global brands and label executives.
This role will be joining our small team, where you will work from home 80% of the week and in our office 20% of your time. Although we are currently small, our clients are anything but and include many of the world’s largest brands including Amazon, Netflix, eBay, TikTok, Toyota, Ford, Unilever, GSK, DHL and Zalando.
Profile:
− Proficiency in statistical modelling and machine learning techniques e.g., PCA, FA, ANOVA, linear models, general linear models (GLMs), understanding of traditional hypothesis testing and significance levels, test / validation splits, resampling methods (bootstrap, cross-validation)
− Experience using machine learning techniques to solve new problems and expertise in R (preferred) or at least one programming language e.g. R or Python.
− Experience with data manipulation (ideally using tidyverse packages) and visualisation (ideally using ggplot2 or similar)
− Experience building complex shiny apps
− Exceptional numerical ability and creative thinker/problem solver.
− Strong communication and presentation skills, including the ability to translate analyses to non-technical audiences.
− An interest in developing a deep understanding of business problems in areas that might not always be familiar to you.
− Strong commercial skills and an understanding that a fast good result is often better than a slow perfect result.
Other desirable but not essential skills/proficiencies:
− Experience with survey data and market research
