We are committed to help create a more sustainable future for retailers

Did you know that it takes an estimated 20,000 litres of water to make a single pair of jeans and a T-shirt (WWF) – along with heaps of pesticides and fertilisers?  On top of this there are around 8,000 different chemicals that are used to turn raw materials into clothes.  Taken together this makes the cotton industry the second most polluting industry in the world (after oil).

What becomes of the clothing, accessories and FMCG that doesn’t sell or quickly goes out of style?

Over 50% of textiles are made of cotton and over 35% of all garments produced are sold at a discount or destroyed/sent to landfill.  This suggests that around 1 in every 3 decisions that retailers make around stock are wrong (that’s $1 trillion every year!).  Over production, guesswork on sales predictions and an ever-growing consumer demand for fast moving fashion are all contributing to textile landfill every year.

In the US alone, almost 11 million tonnes of textiles a year ends up in landfill.  This generates methane gas as it decomposes while also leaching chemicals into the soil.

Part of the solution

Recycling of unwanted products is part of the solution, but what if we could help stop it being manufactured in the first place? SoundOut can help.

Our ability to optimise merchandising, predict sales and dramatically reduce obsolete stock levels doesn’t just benefit your bottom line, but is a smart and sustainable way to do business.   Taken together with increased recycling, SoundOut forms offers a holistic solution for a sustainable future for the fashion retail industry.
